Yes it does, there is a little button in front base just near reverse lever, which releases a spring and front base leg will move forward. As I wish to purchase some secondhand and I am not sure if they will fit my machine Yes, if you are using discs and feet that have all come from the Elna Tavara SA factory Swiss made then you are in luck, all the feet are interchangeable between the machines not the Contessa though, it was made in Japan. The Star series and earlier had one piece feet. The Air Electronics went to a heel and detachable sole design but the height and attachment method is the same between them all. So you can purchase the newer heel and clip on soles and use on the older models if you wish. With the Elnagraph discs almost all the single and double discs can be switched between the machines with the Elnagraph. I have discs from Star Series and Air Electronic and use them all.

Looking for Elna sewing machines at ebay prices? You may get what you paid for. Cosmetics ranging from 6 to near new condition. Supermatic green and tan models. Elna CE computer machine. All of our Elna machines are serviced to factory standards and guaranteed. Almost all of the older high quality Swiss made Elna’s have some parts gummed up with old oil deposits, which results in malfunction of one or more features.
If the old oil has not already seized parts, it soon will, unless these old oil deposits have been removed and re-lubricated with a modern non gumming oil. Various degrees of gummy oil deposits may require several minutes or even weeks for the safe solvents we use to free up the Elna, so it is not a “hurry up” job.
Please don’t ask me to ship your Elna without allowing time for the service to be performed to my standards. Typical shipping times are two to six weeks after receiving your deposit. Most Elna’s have one or more adjustments malfunctioning caused by amateur owner or untrained dealer repair.

This machine started it all, the first machine I bought after deciding I missed having a sewing machine around to do repairs. I bought it at a local Goodwill store on January 12, Since green is my favorite color, it was a likely choice. Little did I know that in six years time my collection would grow to almost machines, four of which are Elna Supermatics. Here it is showing the accessories case that fits around the free arm when in storage. You can also see the fold-out knee bar that these old machines use instead of a foot controller.

Still stocktaking, and comparing treadles Now, counting plates is all very well, but life has to continue unabated, and in spite of the snow. And, I was asked to compare the regular domestic treadle and the industrial types, and thought this might be a useful idea. I have used a Singer 15 class domestic treadle for over 40 years – it’s precise, fast, slow, and strong, and it sews chiffon at least as well as canvas.

Male Pattern Boldness is proud to be the world’s most popular men’s sewing blog! Friends, I have no children of my own, nor do I have anyone else’s. I do wonder, however, what it might be like to teach a small child to sew, how young is too young and, related to this, what kind of sewing machine to start a child on. Many people opt to purchase a toy sewing machine, while others choose an adult machine, perhaps one with a hand crank, or a regular electric machine, to be used only under supervision.
Toy sewing machines have been around nearly as long as sewing machines. They were usually powered by hand, and could produce a respectable chainstitch. The evolution of the toy sewing machine mirrors that of adult machines, particularly in the way sewing machines became increasingly gendered female , and marketed to specific demographic groups college co-ed on the go, young homemaker, etc. Early toy sewing machines looked gender neutral and often were designed to look like miniature versions of adult machines.
Over time, hand cranks gave way to battery-operated, and occasionally even electric, foot pedals. Of course, even when the look was strictly utilitarian, these were primarily intended as toys for girls. But they were sturdy metal machines and they worked. Just like adult sewing machines, with the introduction of plastic in the Sixties, toy sewing machines got flimsy and increasingly shoddy.
Reading some of the feedback for the toy machines for sale today on Amazon , one wonders why anyone bothers buying one. They sound more like a punishment than a creative plaything.
